Over 80% of the world’s population can’t see the stars in the sky. The culprit for our loss is light pollution, the most rapidly growing pollutant on our planet, and one that is presenting a serious global problem. More than a loss of stars and culture; light pollution is negatively impacting on the wildlife and fauna that has evolved with the light/ dark cycle of nature. It is even negatively impacting on our own human health. Landon Bannister is a lighting specialist, a Member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, Chair of the Technical Committee at the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance, and president of Dark Sky Tasmania Inc. Landon will talk about the pervasive nature of light pollution and what we can all do to reduce its impact.
