Claude Cormier has been creating exciting conceptualist landscapes in his native Canada and elsewhere for several decades. His joyful vision of landscape understands it to be a part of human culture, not merely a simulacrum of — or ‘tribute-act’ to — nature. Colour, light, humanity and a sense of humour are all watchwords in the Cormier style. In his creative process, he always brings history with the projects, never as mere copy and without nostalgia, he works with optimism and often uses humour to negotiate his way through.
